Welcome to Year 4
Friday 3rd September 2021
Dear Parents and Carers,
Welcome back from what we hope has been a fun and relaxing summer! After such a long time off, we are so excited to have your children back in school with us. This year will be full of fantastic, fun-filled topics. Our first enquiry question is 'Can we change our future?' We look forward to exploring this with your children through our curriculum subjects.
We have worked hard to make sure that we have everything ready for you when you return. All belongings will be kept outside the classroom on pegs. Where possible, keep what you bring into school at a minimal – bottle, book, diary, lunch and coat (if needed).
If you ever need to talk to us, please catch us at the end of the day at our classroom doors or leave a message with reception.
We are really looking forward to working with you this year.
Homework Expectations
Please see below information about the homework expectations this year.
Daily Reading – your child will be allowed to choose and take home a book from their class library for home reading. We encourage children to read 4 times a week for 10 minutes. Parents are expected to sign the reading record to show their child has read. If a child reads 4 times a week there will be the opportunity to win a reading book as part of our weekly reading raffle!
Alongside reading books, children will have access to an online library, reading activities and games on our online platform, Reading Eggs/Reading Express. Weekly reading tasks will be set for your child to complete at home. These activities will begin to be set on Friday the 24th September. Your child will have a week to complete the assigned task before a new task is set the following Friday. Instructions and your child’s log-in will soon follow. Log-ins will also be stuck in your child’s reading record. The log-ins are remaining the same as last year.
Spelling – Daily spelling is taught discretely in our classes. In these spelling sessions, children will learn spelling patterns to help them learn new words. Children will have a copy of their weekly spellings for the term in their reading record. Children will be given new spellings on a Monday and will be tested on a Friday each week. Words that they have spelt correctly are highlighted in their reading records.
Maths - an online learning platform called My Maths will be used to set weekly optional homework tasks. The aim is to help your child to consolidate what they are learning in school. These activities will be set on Friday the 24th September. The children will have a week to complete the assigned task before a new task is set. The children’s log-ins will soon follow which will also be stuck in their homework diaries.
PE Kit
It is expected that the children will be in full PE kit (burgundy t-shirt and black shorts). They may wear black or grey joggers and a black or grey sweatshirt or their school jumper over their PE kit if it is cold. P.E kits should come into school on a Monday and will be returned on a Friday. Children will be getting ready for P.E in school so please come into school in uniform every day!
Year 4 will be having PE on a Monday and a Thursday
If you have any other queries or concerns about your child please do get in touch.
Many thanks and best wishes,
Year 4 Team
