Year 3

Welcome to Year 3!

It was lovely to meet our new classes in June. We are really excited to teach you and explore all of our wonderful topics.

PE lessons will be on Tuesday and Wednesday

Please make sure you have full PE kit in school - we suggest PE kits are brought in at the start of a half term and left in school until the holiday.

Please note: due to new guidelines, many photos have been removed or edited.

Soils

In Science we have been learning about soils and what they are made from.

We took samples from around the school site, mixed them with water and allowed the contents to settle. This allowed us the chance to see the different elements of the soils and compare them. Some had more branches and bits of leaves, while others had more orange coloured clay.

Butser Ancient Farm

Year 3 took a trip to Butser Ancient Farm to learn more about life in Prehistoric Britain. During the day the children explored houses, constructed through experimental archaeology, from the Stone, Bronze and Iron Age. Throughout the day the children dug up artefacts in from pits; made copper jewellery; created wattle walls with hazel branches and created their won chalk carvings. We ate our lunch warmed by a fire and met some of the farms heritage sheep.

Learning about artists

Ordering and following instructions (English)

Year 3 went into the centre of Basingstoke as part of our local geography unit. We were looked after by the customer service team at Festival place as they told us about the shopping and leisure centre.

We also took a walk around the town centre (Church Square and Top of Town) to look at some of the sculptures, in anticipation of our art learning.
