World Book Day

To celebrate World Book Day, children and staff dressed up. The children enjoyed a range of activities in their year groups, and teachers shared books with children from a range of year groups during the story swap.

2026 National Year of Reading

2026 is the 'National Year of Reading' and we are extremely excited to announce that Park View Primary School has been selected as a distribution partner for this year's £1 World Book Day books.

Official World Book Day vouchers can be brought to our pop-up school bookshop and be exchanged for one of the amazing titles below. We have limited copies of all the books featured on the official list and with something suitable for all ages and interests, make sure to pop in and choose your favourite.

Key Stage 2 Maths Day

Children in Key Stage 2 were able to explore some hands-on Maths investigations.

10 stations were set up within a classroom and each class had a slot to explore, engage and enjoy the activities.

Harvest week and the Woodland Trust Green Tree School Award

The Pupil Governors wanted to provide more outdoor learning opportunities and develop more awareness of eco issues. Having gained the bronze Green Tree School award, they wanted to go for gold!

During the week leading up to the Harvest Festival, all year groups took up one of the challenges set by the Woodland Trust. These included learning about the trees on the school grounds, activities linked to the 5 ways of Well Being, tee inspired art, tree dressing and holding a tree party.

At the end of the week, we had completed enough challenges and were awarded the gold ward.

STEM Week

During STEM week, the children are able to choose 2 workshops. These cover a range of science and design areas that increase engagement and interest in the subject.

The week concludes with a school-wide competition; children work with others from across their key stage to design, make and test a machine.

Parliament Week

Mrs Norman organised an event for schools across Basingstoke.

Pupil Governors from Years 5 and 6 went to the Council Chambers in the centre of town. There was a speech from the MP and Mayor; a Question and Answer session with representatives from the different political parties in the council; and the day ended with the children planning and participating in a debate on school uniforms.

In school, each year groups focus on 1 aspect of the UK Parliament, and we look at significant individuals who have shaped the organisation.

International Women's Day

As part of our International Women’s Day celebrations, children across the school spent the day learning about inspirational women from history and meeting influential female leaders from our local community. Inspired by the year’s theme, #BreakTheBias, pupils explored how stereotypes can limit opportunities and discussed the importance of challenging assumptions so that everyone can achieve their ambitions, regardless of gender.

Using books from the acclaimed 'Little People, Big Dreams' series, each year group learnt about an inspirational woman who had overcome people's ideas about gender, race and other stereotypes. Fun discussions and activities continued the learning.
