A Broad and Balanced Curriculum

At Park View, our curriculum is built around four key principles: Knowledge, Skills, Experience and Wonder.

From the moment children join us in Reception to the day they leave for secondary school, we carefully plan a curriculum that enables every child to thrive. Within the subject pages below, you will find the vision and ambitions for each area of learning, alongside information about the core knowledge pupils will acquire and the subject-specific skills they will develop throughout their seven years at our school.

A Collaborative Approach

Each curriculum area is led by a dedicated subject leader who works alongside members of the senior leadership team and teaching staff to ensure a cohesive and high-quality learning experience for all pupils.

Subject leaders provide long-term plans that ensure full coverage of the National Curriculum and clear progression in both knowledge and skills. Where published programmes of study are not used, subject leaders provide guidance on the essential knowledge, vocabulary and skill development required within each unit of learning.

In History, Geography, Art and Design Technology, we follow a structured five to six-step learning sequence. This approach provides consistency across subjects and gives children regular opportunities to build, revisit, deepen and apply their learning throughout each unit.

Continually Evolving

We believe that an effective curriculum is never static. It should continually evolve to meet the needs of the children in our school, reflect the diversity and experiences of our community, and prepare pupils for the opportunities and challenges of the future.

Through ongoing review, collaboration and feedback, subject leaders regularly refine and enhance our curriculum. This ensures that our broad and balanced offer remains engaging, inclusive and ambitious, giving every child the knowledge, skills, experiences and sense of wonder they need to flourish.

We have considered what key learning takes place in Reception classes that help our children to be ready for the National Curriculum in Year 1. Knowledge, skills and experiences are planned help our children begin their learning in all subjects.

Each half term, a year group will focus on History or Geography, and Art or DT.
