Wider Curriculum

A broad and Balanced Curriculum

At Park View we base our curriculum on our 4 principles of Knowledge and Skills; Experience and Wonder.

We plan our curriculum from entry in Reception to the children being ready to leave and go to secondary school. Within the subject pages below you will find the vision and ambitions for each of our subjects. There will also be documents outline the core knowledge the children will be taught and opportunities to develop the subject specific skills during their seven years at our school.

Collaborative approach

Each curriculum area has a subject leader, with a member of school leadership working alongside teachers to ensure a cohesive approach to learning. Subject leaders provide long-term plans that ensure coverage of the National Curriculum and clear progression of knowledge and skills within their subject. Where programmes of study are not used, subject leader provide guidance on the core knowledge and skill application for each lesson. In history, geography, art and DT we follow a 5-6 step learning sequence, this provides clear structure for all learning with ample opportunities to build, revisit and apply learning through a unit of work.

We believe good curriculum is ever evolving to best meet the needs of the children in our school; ensure representation and inclusion of our community; and the meet changing demands that the children might face outside school or in years to come. An informal and supportive feedback system allows subject leaders to tweak and improve our broad and balanced offering while we strive to give our children the best education possible.

Each half term, a year group will focus on History or Geography, and Art or DT.

Please look at the document below for coverage.
