PE Curriculum & Sports Premium Report 2024–2025

This report outlines the Park View Primary School PE Curriculum and how it has utilised the Sports Premium funding for the academic year 2024–2025 to enhance the quality and breadth of physical education (PE) and sport across the school.

The Importance of Physical Activity

Physical activity plays a vital role in supporting both the physical health and mental wellbeing of children and young people. It contributes to:

  • Improved self-esteem and emotional resilience

  • Reduced levels of anxiety and depression

  • Enhanced behaviour and academic performance

  • Greater happiness, resilience, and peer relationships

  • By ensuring pupils engage in regular physical activity, we aim to foster a positive, healthy, and active school culture.

School Vision and Objectives

At Park View, our PE and sport provision is guided by the following core objectives:

  • To ensure all pupils are physically active on a daily basis

  • To increase participation in sport across all year groups

  • To support pupils with a passion for sport in accessing external sporting opportunities

  • To promote key sporting values: conduct, participation, passion, respect, teamwork, determination, self-belief, and honesty

  • To enhance emotional wellbeing through targeted physical activity

  • To promote healthy lifestyle choices, including nutrition and the benefits of regular movement

Sports Premium Funding Overview

This funding is strategically allocated to ensure long-term sustainability in our sports provision.

A significant portion supports:

  • High-quality extra-curricular sports activities

  • Investment in premium sports equipment

  • Professional development for staff

  • Inclusive access to sport for all pupils

  • Curriculum Provision

Curriculum Structure:

Our PE curriculum is designed to be progressive, inclusive, and engaging from Nursery through to Year 6. The PE Co-ordinator works closely with our dedicated sports coach to plan, deliver, and assess high-quality lessons.

  • Nursery: Introduction to basic sports and movement

  • Reception: FUNdamentals of movement, ball skills, dance, and gymnastics

  • Years 1–6: A broad range of sports including football, tag rugby, hockey, netball/basketball, rounders/scatterball, athletics, dance, and gymnastics

  • Year 5: Swimming lessons delivered at the local pool during the Autumn Term

Assessment grids are completed each half term to monitor pupil progress and ensure a clear progression of skills.

‘Get Set 4 PE’

To further enhance our PE provision, we implement the ‘Get Set 4 PE’ scheme. This comprehensive online platform supports staff in delivering a consistent, high-quality PE curriculum.

Key Features:

  • Detailed lesson plans and schemes of work

  • Curriculum mapping aligned with the National Curriculum

  • Accessible assessment tools

  • Opportunities to introduce new sports such as volleyball

We will also invest in Continuing Professional Development (CPD) to:

  • Strengthen staff confidence and subject knowledge

  • Ensure consistent pedagogy across all Key Stages

  • Support a clear progression of skills from Early Years to Year 6

Extra-Curricular Sport and Enrichment

We offer a wide range of free after-school sports clubs, including:

  • Multi-sports

  • Football

  • Tag rugby

  • Fencing

  • Ultimate Frisbee

These clubs run five days a week, either at lunchtime or after school. In addition, we host regular inter-school competitions and have implemented a house team system (Blue, Red, Green, Orange) to encourage participation and teamwork. Pupils earn points for their teams through mini-tournaments held each half term.

Competitive Sport:

In 2024–2025, pupils participated in over 100 sporting fixtures, including football, rugby, netball, basketball, badminton, hockey, and sports hall athletics. Many teams progressed to county-level competitions, achieving top-three placements.

We are proud to offer:

  • Girls’ and boys’ football and rugby teams

  • Mixed-gender teams across a variety of sports

  • Full inclusivity, with additional adult support and BSL communicators for pupils with SEND, including those in our resourced provision for the deaf

Inclusive Opportunities:

We also participate in non-competitive events such as the Hampshire School Games and KS1 Multiskills Festivals, providing opportunities for pupils who may not usually engage in sport to explore new activities in a supportive environment.

Pupil Leadership: PE Ambassadors and Sports Captains

Our trained PE Ambassadors and Sports Captains play a key role in promoting physical activity across the school. Trained by our sports coach or the Basingstoke School Games Organiser (SGO), these pupils:

  • Lead games and activities during break and lunchtime

  • Support staff during tournaments and events

  • Develop leadership, coaching, and communication skills

  • Act as role models, encouraging wider participation in sport

At Park View, we are committed to delivering a high-quality, inclusive, and inspiring PE curriculum that supports the physical and emotional development of every child. Through strategic use of the Sports Premium, we continue to build a culture of health, wellbeing, and achievement through sport.
