Welcome to Year 6!
This is always a special year for all of us and we look forward to sharing it with you.
PE days are Monday and Tuesday.
Please make sure you have full PE kit for both days. We encourage you to leave PE kits in school and take them home for washing during the holidays.

Year 4 and 6 Times Table Buddies
Every Friday, our classrooms are filled with teamwork and encouragement during Year 4 and Year 6 Times Tables Buddy sessions . This special session pairs Year 6 pupils with a Year 4 partner to practise and strengthen their times tables knowledge, helping the younger children prepare for the Multiplication Times Table Check later in the year.
The sessions are always full of enthusiasm as the pairs work together through quick-fire questions, games and practice activities. Year 4 pupils love the opportunity to learn alongside their older mentors and it’s wonderful to see the confidence they gain from the extra support.
The sessions have had a really positive impact. Not only has it helped the Year 4 children make great progress with their tables, but it has also allowed some of our quieter Year 6 pupils to step into a mentoring role and grow in confidence. Many of them have shown fantastic patience and encouragement – we may even have some future teachers in the making!
It is always lovely to see the children learning together in this way. The sessions are a great example of our school values in action, as pupils truly show how to “Be Kind and Try Your Best.”
CHOICES Programme
Our Year 6 pupils recently took part in an engaging and thought-provoking workshop called CHOICES, designed to help children begin thinking about the decisions they will face as they grow older. The programme, aimed at 10–11 year olds, encourages pupils to reflect on how everyday choices can shape their future, particularly when dealing with situations such as peer pressure.
During the Spring term, the children completed a six-week programme. For the first five weeks, they explored the themes of the course during their PSHE lessons, discussing different scenarios and learning strategies to help them make positive decisions. In the final week, the CHOICES team visited our school and brought the learning to life through drama, role-play and interactive questioning. Pupils explored realistic situations and were encouraged to debate and reflect on the options available to them.
The workshop sparked some fantastic discussions and pupils shared their opinions, listened to others and considered the consequences of different choices. The session left the children with powerful messages about confidence, responsibility and making decisions that are right for them.
The pupils gained a great deal from the experience and were eager to share their thoughts:
“It made me realise that even small choices can change what happens next.”
“I learnt that it’s okay to say no if something doesn’t feel right.”
“The acting made it feel real and helped me think about what I would actually do.”
“It helped me understand how peer pressure works and how to deal with it.”
We are delighted to have been able to offer this programme to our Year 6 pupils and are confident that the messages from the CHOICES workshop will stay with them as they move on to the next stage of their journey.
Careers Day 2026
Our Year 5 and Year 6 pupils recently enjoyed an exciting and inspiring Careers Day, where they had the opportunity to meet professionals from a variety of different industries and learn more about the world of work.
Throughout the afternoon, the children rotated around different stations where they met a Vet, a Make-Up Artist, a Pilot and Police Officers. Each session gave pupils the chance to learn about what a typical day in the job looks like, the qualifications needed to enter the profession and what skills are important for success in that field. The children asked thoughtful questions and showed great curiosity as they explored the many possibilities for their future careers.
One of the highlights of the afternoon was when the police officers brought their police van onto the school playground! The excitement grew even more when they staged a playful demonstration and pretended to arrest and handcuff Mrs Kelly, much to the delight of the children. There was lots of laughter and it was fantastic to see the pupils so engaged and inspired.
The children took away many interesting facts from the day and were keen to share what they had learned:
“I didn’t realise vets have to study animals for so many years, but it would be worth it to help them get better.”
“The make-up artist showed us that it’s not just about make-up – you have to be creative and practise a lot.”
“The pilot told us how important maths and science are if you want to fly a plane.”
“I liked seeing the police van and learning how they help keep people safe.”
It was wonderful to see the children so enthusiastic and excited about their future possibilities, and we are very grateful to the professionals who gave up their time to help make the day such a memorable experience.
Science Experiment - Air Resistance
Our pupils became scientists for the afternoon as they carried out an exciting investigation using paper helicopters.
The aim of the experiment was to test how the length of the helicopter wings affected the speed at which it fell to the floor. Working in small groups, the children carefully planned each part of their investigation. They discussed how to make it a fair test, what they needed to keep the same and what they would change. Before beginning, the pupils also made predictions about which helicopter they thought would fall the fastest and why.
Each member of the group took on an important role to help the experiment run smoothly. We had droppers releasing the helicopters, timers measuring how long they took to reach the floor, recorders noting down the results and runners collecting the helicopters ready for the next test. The teamwork and organisation were fantastic to see!
The most exciting part was watching the helicopters spin down to the ground and seeing whether their predictions matched the results. The children loved analysing their findings and discussing why some helicopters fell faster than others.
It was a brilliant hands-on science lesson that allowed the children to explore investigation, teamwork and scientific thinking while having lots of fun along the way.
World Book Day 2026
Year 6 fully embraced the spirit of World Book Day this year, arriving at school as a wonderful mix of much-loved book characters! Among the crowd we spotted The BFG, The Rainbow Fish, Gangsta Granny, Matilda and even an Oompa Loompa, just to name a few.
The children looked fantastic and had a brilliant time taking part in the live reading lesson, sharing their love of stories together. It was a fun-filled day celebrating books, imagination and a few very convincing characters – we’re just relieved the Oompa Loompa didn’t start reorganising the classroom! 📚✨

Year 6 Staycation/Vacation Week
Day 1 Highlights
What a fantastic start to the week! The sun was shining and spirits were high as our Year 6 children embarked on their first day of Staycation/Vacation Week.
PGL Adventure
At PGL, the children took part in a Sensory Trail, where they explored what it’s like to navigate the world without sight. It was a powerful experience that encouraged teamwork, trust, and heightened awareness of other senses.
They also tackled the Vertical Climb Challenge — a thrilling ascent using ropes and ladders. Every child gave it a go, with many reaching impressive heights. We’re incredibly proud of their courage and determination. Well done, Year 6!
School-Based Quest
Back at school, the children embarked on an exciting adventure: The Quest for the Golden Compass. Working in teams, they used a map of the school to hunt for hidden clues. Each clue revealed a word, and when unscrambled, pointed to the secret location of the Golden Compass.
After much searching and clever thinking, two teams successfully uncovered the treasure — hidden deep within Mrs Owens’ office! The challenge sparked curiosity, collaboration, and lots of laughter.
Day 2 Highlights
Osmington Bay Adventures
The sunshine continued to bless us on Day 2 at Osmington Bay! The morning kicked off with a challenge on the climbing wall, where the children showed great determination and courage. Next, they put their map-reading skills to the test during an exciting orienteering session.
In the afternoon, it was time to hit the water for some Dragon Boat racing! Split into two teams, the children paddled with enthusiasm and competitive spirit. After three thrilling races, the pink boat claimed victory with a score of 2–1. There were a few splashes along the way, but thankfully no one went overboard.
Staycation Fun at School
Back at school, the Staycation group had another fantastic day. The morning began with a delicious activity—making their own pitta pizzas! These were a big hit, and we even had special deliveries for Mrs Hollyman and Mrs Barrow.
After lunch, the children took part in a lively Jenga tournament to crown the Grand Champion. The final showdown was between Donnali and Tyrone, with Tyrone taking the win!
The afternoon wrapped up with another round of extreme dodgeball, which was clearly a favourite from yesterday. Midway through, we paused for a well-deserved treat: hot chocolate topped with cream and marshmallows. Everyone is feeling tired but happy after two days packed with fun, laughter, and great memories.
Day 3 Highlights
Osmington Bay Adventures
Another action-packed day at Osmington Bay! Spirits remained high, even if energy levels were starting to dip slightly—perhaps due to some late-night chatting!
The morning kicked off with an exhilarating paddleboarding session in the (very!) chilly sea. With wetsuits on and smiles all around, the children tested their balance, played games, and had plenty of fun splashing into the water—accompanied by lots of laughter.
This afternoon brought even more excitement with the giant swing, followed by a fencing session where the children learned new skills and had a fantastic time. The day will wrap up with a visit to the shop, a hearty dinner, and an evening game of Ambush. We’re sure they’ll sleep soundly tonight!
Staycation Fun
Back at school, our staycation group had a creative and active day. The morning was filled with artistic flair in a session led by Mrs Sharp, while the afternoon saw the children getting active with sports and games led by Mr Apps. A few photos are shared below, with more of the artistic flare to come soon—watch this space!
Day 4 Highlights
Today was packed with excitement and teamwork! We kicked off the morning with rifle shooting and the zip wire. There were some impressive scores on the range and even more impressive screams of joy as children soared through the air!
In the afternoon, the children tackled Jacob’s Ladder, a challenging climbing activity that required plenty of teamwork and encouragement. It was wonderful to see them supporting one another every step of the way.
We wrapped up the day with Aeroball – imagine basketball played on trampolines! It was energetic, competitive, and a whole lot of fun.
We’re sure you’ll be welcoming home some very tired but incredibly proud children tomorrow.
At school, the Staycation group enjoyed another action-packed and memorable day. This morning, we set off on a walk to Hollywood Bowl, where the children had a fantastic time taking on the lanes. There were plenty of strikes, spares, and lots of laughter. What really stood out was how supportive and encouraging they were of each other—celebrating every turn, sharing tips, and making sure everyone felt included.
After lunch, the creative energy flowed as the children took on a new challenge: designing their very own survival-themed board games. We can't wait to put them to the test tomorrow!
