EHCP

An EHCP is a legal document that sets out your child’s special educational needs and the extra support they need to achieve their best. It goes beyond SEN Support and is designed for children who need more help than a school can usually provide from its own resources.

The EHCP Process

  1. Request for Assessment: This can be made by you, the school, or a professional. The local authority decides if an assessment is needed.
  2. Assessment: Professionals from education, health, and care work together to understand your child’s needs in detail.
  3. Plan Creation: If agreed, the EHCP is written. It includes your child’s needs, outcomes, and the specific support they will receive.
  4. Annual Review: The plan is reviewed every year to make sure it still meets your child’s needs.

What This Looks Like in School

  • Your child will continue to have an Individual Education Plan (IEP), but the EHCP adds extra resources and specialist input.
  • Support might include more adult help, specialist teaching, therapy sessions (like speech and language), or equipment.
  • The SENCo will coordinate everything and keep you informed.
  • We work closely with you and external professionals to make sure the EHCP is followed every day.

The aim is always the same: to help your child learn, feel confident, and thrive.
