Music

Music is an important part of life at Park View, providing children with opportunities to develop creativity, confidence and a lifelong appreciation of the arts.

In Years 2, 3 and 4, music is taught by a specialist teacher from Hampshire Music Service. Through these lessons, children have the opportunity to learn and play a wide range of musical instruments on a rotational basis, supported by resources provided by the service. In other year groups, music is taught by class teachers using the Collins Connect Music Express scheme, ensuring high-quality, progressive musical learning across the school.

Children also take part in weekly singing assemblies in both Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2. These sessions help pupils develop their vocal skills, build confidence in performance and expand their understanding of musical vocabulary and concepts.

Throughout their time at Park View, children enjoy a variety of performance opportunities that allow them to showcase their talents and celebrate their achievements. These include the Reception and Year 1 Nativity, the Year 3 and 4 Christmas Carol Concert, and end-of-year productions for Years 2 and 6. Through these experiences, children develop confidence, teamwork and a love of performing in front of an audience.

Charanga Music Scheme

At Park View, we use the Charanga Music Scheme to provide a comprehensive, engaging and progressive music curriculum for all pupils. Charanga's high-quality resources, interactive activities and diverse repertoire support different learning styles and help children develop a genuine enjoyment of music.

The scheme provides a clear progression of musical knowledge and skills, with a strong emphasis on practical music-making, listening, composing and performing. Its carefully sequenced lessons ensure that children build their understanding and confidence year-on-year, while enabling teachers to deliver high-quality music education consistently across the school.

Choir and Rocksteady

At Park View, we are committed to providing children with a wide range of musical opportunities beyond the classroom. These experiences enable pupils to develop their musical talents, build confidence and experience the joy of performing with others.

Our school choir meets weekly and gives children the opportunity to develop their singing skills, perform as part of a larger ensemble and represent the school within the local community. Each year, choir members take part in a spectacular performance at The Anvil, alongside pupils from other local schools.

We also work in partnership with Rocksteady Music School, which offers weekly band-based music lessons. Through Rocksteady, children learn to play instruments, rehearse as part of a band and perform to an audience, developing teamwork, resilience and confidence while experiencing the excitement of live music-making.

Together, these opportunities help foster a lifelong love of music and provide memorable experiences that enrich children's time at Park View.
